Regardless of whether you run a food truck, a fast-casual restaurant or large-scale events: you need to trust that your food packaging is sustainable, safe to use and compliant.

PFAS has been an industry standard for bagasse and other fibre materials due to its ability to prevent oil and grease from leaking through food packaging. However, the mounting evidence against PFAS has led to regulations on its use and an uptick in national bans.

As of January 1st, 2024, we've put a full stop to the production of products with added PFAS. To keep communications clear and transparent, we've changed article numbers on affected products.

What is PFAS?

PFAS (Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) are a large and complex group of +10,000 identified substances can repel water and grease as well as withstand high temperatures. Although PFAS is widely used in anything from raincoats to frying pans and firefighting foam; it’s been uncovered as a “forever chemical” that can contaminate soil and water.

PFAS in food packaging

PFAS is widely used for food packaging, and chances are you’ve both used and consumed food from them. Furthermore, PFAS has been an industry standard for bagasse products due to its ability to prevent oil and grease from leaking through food packaging.

PFAS regulations in 2024

The now-known effects on people, the environment and ecosystems have led to public concern and legal repercussions. This includes a PFAS ban in Denmark, proposed PFAS limits (PPWR) and a proposed restriction from the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) spearheaded by Sweden, Denmark, the Netherlands, Finland and Germany.

It's safe to say that PFAS is creating a bit of a split. And we want to help you navigate the complex legal landscape without having to second-guess your food packaging's legality, safety or functionality.

Beschichtet, unbeschichtet und verpackt:

Bagasse ist ein nachhaltiges und schnell nachwachsendes Material mit einem geringen CO2-Fußabdruck und ein hervorragendes Material für Lebensmittelverpackungen. Aber es benötigt fett- und wasserabweisende Mittel, um zu verhindern, dass Ihre Tacos, Burger, Nudeln und Salate auslaufen.

Durch umfangreiche Forschung und Entwicklung haben wir eine alternative ölbasierte Barrierelösung herstellen können, welche die bisher verwendeten PFAS-Additive ersetzen kann. Der Verzicht auf zusätzlich zugeführten PFAS hat dazu geführt, dass sich die Leistungsprofile und empfohlenen Anwendungen unserer Bagasse-Produkte verändert haben. Daher ist es wichtig, dass Sie für Ihre Lebensmittel die richtigen Produkte verwenden.

Mit PBAT/PLA-Beschichtung für fettige Lebensmittel und die langfristige Aufbewahrung. Geeignet zum Aufwärmen in der Mikrowelle.

Verpackungspapier

Sorgen Sie dafür, dass Ihre unbeschichteten Bagasse-Produkte vor auslaufendem Fett geschützt werden, indem Sie Verpackungspapier hinzufügen.
