A change already underway
The PFAS ban in the EU is a clear signal that the industry is entering a new phase. For many companies, the focus now is on understanding the changes, reviewing their packaging, and planning for the future.
Addressing PFAS today can make the transition smoother and more predictable – while also building confidence among both businesses and customers.
When will PFAS be banned?
From 12 August 2026, food packaging containing PFAS above the EU’s established threshold levels may no longer be sold on the EU market under the PPWR regulation. Companies must ensure their packaging meets the new requirements to continue selling within the EU.
Which countries are banning PFAS?
Several countries have already introduced restrictions. Denmark banned PFAS in paper and cardboard food packaging as early as 2020. A broader ban will be implemented across the EU from 12 August 2026.
Is PFAS allowed in Sweden?
PFAS is already heavily restricted in Sweden and across the EU, where certain particularly hazardous PFAS substances are banned. Sweden is also one of the countries pushing for a more comprehensive PFAS ban.
